  • Birth*: Joseph was born in February 1871, Bridgeton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, , I think it is odd that Joseph's obituary said he was born at Bridgeton, York County, and there is such a place, but in 1870, his father is on the census at Upper Black Eddy, Bucks County, and the census page says "Bridgeton District".2,3

  • Birth*: Isaiah was born on 15 January 1839, Pennsylvania , Birth listed in Fackenthal's "Soldiers of the Civil War" as 1849, but birth as calculated from obituary and censuses indicates 1839. A birth of 1849 would have made him age 13 when he joined the Civil War which would be unlikely.2
  • Census: Isaiah appeared on the census of 3 August 1860 at Greenwich Twp, Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey, as Farm Laborer, age 22, in the household of Philip G. Fine, age 39, Farmer worth $1600, and family, living next to Elizabeth Fine, age 60, only person in her household, estate $5000. This entry is indexed Josiah, and it does look like Josiah, so this may not be Isaiah, but since he later lives in Greenwich Twp, and is no longer with his parents, and I don't see a Josiah Piatt in any other census year, this is a good candidate for Isaiah.3
  • Milit-Beg*: Isaiah Pyatt began military service on 3 September 1862 at Flemington, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, in the Civil War in Company F, 31st Regiment of New Jersey Infantry, organized at Flemington, N.J., and mustered in September 17, 1862. Left New Jersey for Washington, D.C., September 26, 1862. Attached to Abercrombie's Provisional Brigade, Casey's Division, Defenses of Washington, to December, 1862. Patrick's Command, Provost Guard, Army of the Potomac, to January, 1863. 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 1st Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, to June, 1863.

SERVICE.--Duty in the defenses of Washington until November, 1862. Moved to Aquia Creek, Va., and duty there guarding railroad until January, 1863. Moved to Belle Plain, Va., and joined Army of the Potomac January 10, 1863. "Mud March" January 20-24. Duty at Belle Plain until April 27. Chancellorsville Campaign April 27-May 6. Operations at Pollock's, Mill Creek, April 29-May 2. Battle of Chancellorsville May 2-5. Ordered home for muster out June. Mustered out June 24, 1863.

Regiment lost during service 39 Enlisted men by disease.

His brothers Jacob H. and William N. also served with him in this company on these dates.
  • Milit-End*: He ended military service on 24 June 1863 at New Jersey.
  • Marriage*: Isaiah married Amanda (?) circa 1865.
  • Census*: Isaiah appeared on the census of 1 July 1870 at Bridgeton, Upper Black Eddy, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as age 30, Occupation: Boating on Canal, personal estate $200, born in Penna., with Amanda, age 24, keeping house; William, age 4 and David, age 1, all born in Penna. Neighbors Anna Fisher, Aaron Oberbeck, Bernard Sadler.4
  • Census: Isaiah appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 at Greenwich Twp, Warren County, New Jersey, as age 41, Huckster. With Mandy, wife, age 33, Keeping House; son William, age 13; son Jacob, age 11; son Joseph, age 9; daughter Ida M., age 5; son John, age 3. John, Ida and William born in New Jersey, the others in Pa. Many other Pyatt's nearby, including Henry G., Thomas, Aaron and his brother Washington, Joseph G, Phillip, and Jacob H.2
  • (Widow) Death: At age at an unknown age , Isaiah Pyatt was widowed by the death of Amanda (?) on 28 July 1889.5
  • Census: Isaiah appeared on the Special Veterans census of 1890 at Williams Township, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, This documents his regiment and dates of service and shows that he was still living at that time.6
  • Census: Isaiah appeared on the census of 1890 at South Side, Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania, as junk dealer.
  • Pensn App Civil War*: Isaiah filed a Civil War Pension Application on 24 October 1890 as follows:
Late Rank: P, Co. F, 31 Reg't N.J. Inf. Class: Invalid, Application No. 942230, Law: Age, Certificate No. 924072. Additional date of filing listed: 13 Mar 1907.7
  • Death*: Isaiah died on 11 June 1911, Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey, at age 72.5
  • Burial*: Isaiah was buried in, Riegelsville, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.8
  • Obituary*: 12 June 1911 Obituary: In the "New Jersey News" section: Isaiah Piatt, a veteran of the Civil War, died at 5:30 this morning at his home, No. 1 Randall street, aged 69 years.
