Henry Hudson Holly1
M, b. 1837, d. 4 September 1892
- Birth*: Henry was born in 1837, New York City, New York, New York.1
- Death*: Henry died on 4 September 1892, 3 East Eighty-fourth St., New York City, New York, New York.1
- Obituary*: New York Times 7 September 1892 Obituary: Henry Hudson Holly, an architect of note, died at his home, 3 East Eighty-fourth Street, on Sunday. He was fifty-five years old. The cause of his death was a complication of internal disorders, resulting from injuries received in a fall three years ago in a building, the erection of which he was supervising.
Mr. Holly was of an old Connecticut family, whose early members were among the founders of Stamford. His father removed to this city, and lived on Fifth Avenue when that was but a country road, and was an Alderman of this city between 1840 and 1850. Mr. Holly was the author of "Holly's Country Seats" and "Holly's Curch Architecture." He had been a member of the American Institute of Architects since it was founded, in 1857.
He confined his professional work to country residences and to churches. Among the noted structures that he designed or supervised is the residence of one of the leading mining men of Colorado, erected at a cost of $400,000 and the buildings of the university at Sewanee, Tenn. He did excellent service on the several committees of the American Institute and on those of the New-York chapter of the same organization.
For over a quarter of a century his office was in the Trinity Building in this city, but for the last few years he has been in partnership with Mr. Jelliff, a former employe [sic]. He leaves one son. The burial will take place from St. Luke's Chapel, Stamford, Conn.

- Death*: William died on 12 September 1894, New York City, New York, New York.1
- Obituary*: New York Times 13 September 1894 Obituary: Sudden Death of W.A. Holly
William A. Holly, the head of the cotton department of the New-York branch of the British and Foreign Marine Insurance Company, Limited, of London, died suddenly yesterday, in a restaurant at 1 Hanover Square. He had not complained of feeling ill other than of an occasional drawing sensation around the heart. The body was removed to Mr. Holly's late residence, 215 West One Hundred and Twenty-second Street.
Mr. Holly was born in New-York in 1832. His family came from Stamford, Conn. He served his business apprenticeship in the dry goods house of Claflin, Mellon a& Co., now the H.B. Claflin Company, and then entered the service of the Great Western Insurance Company, where he remained twenty-seven years. Upon the dissolution of that company, seven years ago, he became connected with the American branch of the British and Foreign Marine Insurance Company, which has its offices in the Cotton Exchange Building.
Mr. Holly's widow and an adopted daughter survive him. His only brother lives at Wading River, L.I., and his only sister is Lilla A. Holly. The arrangements for the funeral have not been made.1
